If you are looking for help with New Zealand military resources for your story research, here's a list of some key sites we believe will help you.

First of all, the parent of New Zealand military resources, the NZ Government's military history links page. From here you can move to all manner of sites, so it's a great starting point.

Medals

Here you can search the records and medals of New Zealanders at war and find sources when undertaking your military research. There is also a sub-page that allows you to download World War I military service records.

Library resources

The Kippenberger Research Library in Waiouru specialises in military history with the emphasis on New Zealand. The General Collection contains both historical and contemporary resources and includes official and unofficial World War I and II unit histories, biographies, Embarkation Rolls and campaign histories.

The New Zealand Army Museum provides a useful guide to researching military service personnel. You'll find the 2-page PDF to download on their family history page.

The New Zealand Archives provide a wealth of information, and there is a page for researching military history in your family.

The New Zealand National Library has a useful help page for researching your military history. They also provide resources for family history in general.
